Why some grains in dog or cat food can cause problems?
As with some people, grain, especially wheat, can cause nasty health problems for dogs and cats.
The reason for this is the wheat gluten, a form of protein that is more than 50% in wheat. Many dogs and cats cannot tolerate these wheat gluten well and develop a gluten sensitivity.
In fact, these gluten can cause permanent irritation and inflammation of the intestinal tract. The skin of sensitive dogs and cats can also develop inflammatory reactions from nutrition with wheat gluten.
Dogs and cats with a sensitive stomach in particular often react less well to grains containing gluten (wheat, rye, barley).
Corn and soy can also, albeit to a lesser extent, lead to very nasty stomach and intestinal problems in dogs and cats. In addition, the vegetable proteins in maize and soy are of significantly less value to a dog or cat than animal proteins. For the good health of our pets, all our nutritional formulas are formulated without wheat, corn or soy.
